PAUL ORSHOSKI

   CHILDREN’S AUTHOR & POET

As a published author, I enjoy making students giggle during school visits by sharing my poems in small or large group settings wherever I am asked to present.

Each 45-60 minute session includes a digital presentation where I share writing tips that have been effective for me.  I also recite and discuss my poems and books with students and teachers.  I enjoy sharing with others the stories behind my poems and books, as well as where the ideas for each one came from.

Many of the presentations are tailored to include an interactive poetry writing session where students help me write a new poem.  Students will experience the creative process in action, be guided through the early stages of idea development, and will pick a topic of interest to write about.  I will then rely on my “class of experts” to help me brainstorm ideas, generate rhymes, and begin a new poem.  As a result, students will experience firsthand just how much fun language can be with jokes, puns and wacky wordplay.  Each presentation concludes with a question-and-answer period.

COST FOR A SCHOOL VISIT:

My fee to speak at your school is based on several factors:  the number of programs to be presented, length of stay at the event, and location of the event (for travel and other expenses).  My experience has been that I can accommodate most budgets, and that I can customize my presentation to match your needs.  Please contact me with details of your event for a specific cost estimate.

TESTIMONIALS:

“Thanks again for such a great day!  I’ve already had several teachers tell me that their kids loved it, and there were lots of kids talking about their books and funny parts from the presentations.”

– Jennifer Ford, Librarian, McKenney-Harrison Elementary School, Auburn, IN

“Thank you again for visiting Central Elementary yesterday and celebrating World Read Aloud Day with us! The students and staff enjoyed your program, and being able to laugh and giggle a bit before ISTEP+ testing begins next week was fun.”

– Rebecca Outcalt, Principal, Central Elementary School, Lebanon, IN

“I asked the Kindergarten class what they thought of your visit yesterday and they said ... funny, cool, epic, and fantastic ... among other things!  The students always enjoy meeting a real author and it is inspiring for them to hear how they can use their own experiences to write poems and stories. It was a great morning, full of laughter that the students will not soon forget. Thank you again.”

– Chris Cook, Librarian, St. Dominic School, Shaker Heights, OH

“I wanted to once again thank you for a wonderful presentation! What a superb way to kick-off our Right to Read week! You did a great job inspiring students to write. I had positive feedback from all the teachers, K-2 and 3-5. I commend you on a well-organized, entertaining presentation!”

– Michelle Modock, 2nd Grade Teacher, Keystone Elementary School, LaGrange, OH

“It was a pleasure to meet you. I can’t thank you enough for spending the day at Hershey Elementary School. I have heard wonderful things from the staff about your visit. You were so easy to work with and you worked well with our students. I will definitely recommend you to my educator friends. I just read Dad Does It All to my daughter - Hilarious!!”

“We were so pleased to have you come. I know you made a long trip to make it happen, but I’m sure that the students will remember your visit for a long time. My students were so excited when they came back to the room. I’m sure there will be good discussion in the days ahead, and I’m guessing some students headed home to do some writing tonight.”

– Sue Body, 3rd Grade Teacher, Clarke Elementary School, Osceola, IA

“We really enjoyed your visit. The kids are still talking about it! Thanks for a wonderful experience for our students!”
